Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov is Head of Department „National and Regional Security“ (since 2007), Member of the Faculty Council and the Academic Council of the University of National and World Economy (since 2007). Member of the Ethics Committee of the of the University of National and World Economy ( January 2012 – December 2015).Dean of Faculty ‘Economics of Infrastructure’ at UNWE (since November 2015).

He has more than 100 publications – 26 in English and 78 in Bulgarian. Author or co-author of 16 monographs, 4 textbooks and teaching materials, 11 publications abroad, scientific editor of 30 papers (including eight in English). With publications in the Netherlands, Germany, USA, UK, publishers Nomos Verlag, Frank Cass and Routledge. There are two books published in the Netherlands and Germany. Prof. Dimitrov is awarded with Scholarship of the „Volkswagen Foundation“ (February 1997-February 1998, Groningen, The Netherlands) and the „Ford Foundation“ (May 2000-November 2000, Bonn, Germany), MIIS at Monterey Visiting Fellow (Jan-May 2015), Monterey, USA.

Participation in 59 research projects (since 1993), including 18 international. Member of the network of experts from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute SIPRI – Stockholm, Sweden. Supervisor of 9 PhD students, doctoral reviewer of 12 PhD theses. With over 300 hours of lectures and exercises per year – in Economic Analysis in Defense and Security, International Operations, Security Policy, Economic Analysis Scientific supervisor of over 100 bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Fluent in English, Russian, basic German, very good computer skills. Long-term scientific specializations in CESS, Groningen, Netherlands, BICC, Bonn, Germany, MIIS -CNS, Monterrey, USA, short-term – Munich, Brussels, Geneva, Antwerp, Stockholm, Nicosia, Seattle, Bucharest, Vienna, Yogyakarta (Morocco) and others.

Awarded the Ministry of Defense honorary plaque Member of the International Nuclear Security Education Network (INSEN) (April 2014 to present) Member of Nuclear Security Support Centers Network (NSSCNetwork) (December 2015 to present) Member of the Scientific and Expert Group (NEG) at the Advisory Council to assist the Council of Ministers in shaping the state policy in the field of disaster protection (since July 2014) Director of the Center for Nuclear Safety Support at UNWE (March 2016 to present).
