Prof. Dr. Darko Trifunović is a full-time research professor and the Founder and Director of the Institute for National and International Security (INIS), one of the largest international academic and professional networks dedicated to the development and promotion of Security Science. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Security Science Journal, an international peer-reviewed journal focused on security, intelligence, and strategic studies.
Prof. Dr. Trifunović holds a Doctor Honoris Causa degree awarded by the University of Public and Individual Security – Apeiron (Krakow, Poland). He has been elected as a Visiting Professor at the University “St. Kliment Ohridski” – Faculty of Security Studies (Skopje, North Macedonia), and as a Guest Professor at Matej Bel University, Faculty of Political Science and International Relations (Slovakia). He is also a Senior Researcher at Bar-Ilan University (Israel) and a Senior Advisor at the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS), Athens, Greece.
Prof. Dr. Trifunović is fully employed at the Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade, where he teaches and conducts research in Security Studies, Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence, Counter-Terrorism, National Security, and International Security. His academic and professional work significantly contributed to the conceptual development of Security Science as an independent and interdisciplinary scientific field.
He is a former diplomat who served as First Secretary in the Foreign Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the United Nations. In 1998, he was an official delegate in Rome during the Diplomatic Conference that led to the establishment of the International Criminal Court.
Prof. Dr. Trifunović is the official representative of Serbia and Montenegro to several international professional and academic platforms, including the International Strategic Studies Association (ISSA), Defense & Foreign Affairs publications, and the Global Information System. He is also a founding member of the International Counter-Terrorism Academic Community (ICTAC).
He has authored and edited numerous academic books, policy papers, and peer-reviewed articles, and regularly participates in international conferences, expert panels, and strategic forums. His work bridges academia and practice, with a strong focus on intelligence analysis, hybrid threats, and strategic security challenges.
For his professional contributions, Prof. Dr. Darko Trifunović received the highest military decoration of the Military Security Agency of the Republic of Serbia – the Great Golden Badge.
