At the headquarters of the Institute for National and International Security (INIS), a working meeting was held today with H.E. Oleksandr Lytvynenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Serbia. The INIS delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Darko Trifunović, the Institute’s Director.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed current security developments in Europe, with particular emphasis on regional stability, hybrid threats, critical infrastructure protection, and prospects for strengthening international security cooperation. We exchanged views on the importance of academic and expert dialogue amid complex geopolitical change, as well as on the role of research institutions in fostering constructive engagement and mutual understanding.

Prof. Dr. Trifunović expressed particular interest in the historical and contemporary presence of the Serbian community in Ukraine. He highlighted that certain regions of Ukraine bear historical names linked to Serbian heritage, notably Slavo-Serbia (Slavyanoserbia), reflecting the long-standing historical ties between the Serbian and Ukrainian peoples. This dimension was recognized as an important cultural and historical bridge contributing to mutual understanding between the two nations.

Special attention was also given to potential cooperation in the framework of Security Science, including the participation of Ukrainian experts in upcoming INIS conferences, roundtables, and research projects, as well as future international forums dedicated to contemporary security challenges.

The meeting was conducted in a constructive and cordial atmosphere, with mutual readiness expressed to continue professional and academic communication, aimed at strengthening dialogue, cooperation, and stability within the broader European security space.

INIS remains committed to advancing international cooperation and promoting Security Science as a comprehensive, interdisciplinary field that addresses the evolving dynamics of modern security.
