The Institute for National and International Security INIS with our partners organized an international scientific conference under the following title:

East and South-East Europe – Security Threats and Challenges

The Institute for National and International Security (INIS) and its partners organized the largest international scientific conference in Belgrade called “East and South-East Europe – Security Threats and Challenges” in which the most eminent experts, professors and scientists from the field of security science participated. and the fight against terrorism from Eastern and Southeastern Europe, from 14 countries and 18 lecturers/speakers.

The conference started on December 1, 2022 in a traditional restaurant with a welcome dinner. On December 2, 2022, in the premises of the INIS Institute, the Royal Artillery building from 1922, the official opening will be followed by a musical spectacle by friends of the Institute (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DVNNP0UJhmg), the conference will be opened by the Director of the Institute Prof. Dr. Darko TRIFUNOVIC and a leading expert in the field of security and counter-terrorism Prof. dr. emeritus Alex P. SCHMID with the topic “Security Studies and Terrorism Studies – Common Problems and Challenges” (Remarks made on the occasion of the INIS Award Ceremony, 2 December 2022).

Gold plaques were awarded to Prof. Dr. Shlomo SHPIRO and Prof. Dr. John NOMIKOS for his outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of Security Science and Science of Intelligence, Prof. Ph.D. emeritus Alex P. SCHMID for his life’s work and his outstanding contribution to Counter-Terrorism, National Security and promotion of Security Science, as well as Prof. Dr. Darko TRIFUNOVIĆ for Ambassador of Peace, awarded Mr. Jovan DAMJANOVIC from the World Roma Association.

During the introductory segments of the conference, cooperation agreements were signed between INIS and Security Academy APEIRON, Poland and INIS and Faculty of Security Studies, North Macedonia.

Participants, members of the INIS Institute with their presentations were divided into two groups and performed in the following order:

After the end of the second day of the conference and the presentations of the participants, we went to a traditional fish restaurant by the Danube.

On December 3 and the last day of the scientific conference, participants-members of the Institute visited the Military Museum of Serbia and the National Museum of Serbia, with the continuation of the conference in the form of a special lecture by Prof. dr. emeritus Alex P. SCHMID on the topic “Terrorist and Non-Terrorist Threats to European Security”. At the end, in a closed session based on the principle of a round table, the members of the Institute exchanged conclusions from the conference, ideas, proposals for projects and further cooperation with dinner in the premises of the Institute.

The submitted scientific papers from the conference “East and South-East Europe – Security Threats and Challenges” will be published in “SECURITY SCIENCE JOURNAL”, (http://www.securityscience.edu.rs/index.php/journal-security-science).
