The Institute for National and International Security (INIS) and the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research (IMSI) of the University of Belgrade have officially signed a Cooperation Agreement, establishing a framework for long-term scientific, research, and professional collaboration.

The Agreement was signed on behalf of INIS by Prof. Dr. Darko Trifunović, Director of the Institute for National and International Security, and on behalf of IMSI by Prof. Dr. Dragica Radosavljević-Mihajlović, Director of the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research.

Founded in 1970, the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research of the University of Belgrade is one of Serbia’s leading multidisciplinary scientific institutions and an integral part of the University of Belgrade, the country’s oldest and highest-ranked university. For more than five decades, the Institute has brought together researchers from diverse scientific disciplines, fostering collaboration across the natural, technical, biomedical, environmental, and engineering sciences. Through its multidisciplinary approach, the Institute has made significant contributions to scientific research, technological innovation, sustainable development, advanced materials, life sciences, environmental protection, and numerous international research initiatives funded through European and global research programs.

The partnership between INIS and IMSI reflects the growing need to integrate expertise from different scientific domains in order to address increasingly complex contemporary security challenges. Modern security issues—including artificial intelligence, critical infrastructure protection, biosecurity, CBRN threats, environmental security, resilience of technological systems, and emerging technologies—require scientific cooperation that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries.

Pursuant to the provisions of the newly signed Agreement, the partner institutions will cooperate in several key areas:

• Development and implementation of joint national and international scientific research projects, integrating expertise in Security Science, multidisciplinary research, and engineering management.
• Dissemination of scientific knowledge through the publication of joint research papers in leading international journals and the organization of scientific conferences, symposia, workshops, and round-table discussions.
• Expansion of institutional partnerships by strengthening cooperation with universities, research institutes, governmental institutions, international organizations, and industry partners in Serbia and abroad.
• Education and professional development, including continuous training of researchers and experts, technology transfer, as well as the organizational and economic advancement of joint scientific and professional activities.

This cooperation will create new opportunities for interdisciplinary scientific research, facilitate knowledge exchange between experts from different fields, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for national and international security challenges. It also reflects both institutions’ commitment to promoting scientific excellence, international cooperation, and evidence-based policymaking.
