INIS Research Fellow Dr. Joseph Fitsanakis has established the “GRU Study Group” under the auspices of Coastal Carolina University’s Center for Applied Intelligence. The GRU Study Group recently presented preliminary findings stemming from its research on Russian military intelligence at the Secure Carolinas Conference in Columbia, United States. Entitled “The Silent Hand: Russia’s Hybrid Intelligence Operations Against the West”, the research examines the combination of kinetic and cyber operations against Western targets conducted by the Main Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff (known as GRU) since 2014.
